Steel Grid Model Stand Work Sheet

Print this section and use it as a work sheet to plan the size and options for your proposed Model Stand. When your custom plan is complete, go to component pricing. Also, compare your design and price with factory specified and priced package deals.

An Important Consideration:

Model stands
may be factory specified or custom built to buyer's parameters.

Step 1    Steel Grid Framework Dimensions

Decide on the three major dimensions (Height, Width, Length) of the completed framework. We will determine the MuleCube size and multiple.

L =

W =

H =

For Reference:
Weights (lbs) for typical steel grid framework sizes...
48"x48"x20" = 123 lbs.
60"x60"x20" = 133 lbs.
72"x72"x20" = 227 lbs.

Light enough to
 tip up and
store on end,
including top.

Minimum size: 48 x 48 x 15 inches—no maximum size but, very large sizes may prohibit wheels (casters); square, rectangular or irregular floor plans possible..

Step 2  Top Dimensions and Material Options

Tops, or segments of tops, can be cut exactly the same size as the steel framework, or, they can be cut to overhang (cantilever) any or all edges of the steel framework.

Standard material for the top is 3/4" thick MDF (medium density fiberboard), with a high pressure laminated cover surface.

Or, if you have a preferred  material (Baltic Birch Plywood?), we can get it. Also, you may purchase the model stand without a top and make your own.

Step 3    Shelves Option, Number of Pieces

Shelves rest on lugs attached to the bottom of each individual MuleCube. The number of shelves that can be ordered equals the number of cubes in the model stand (typically 9), unless casters are specified (see note below). Shelves make a great stowaway space for still-life props in art classrooms. Shelf material is 1/2" MDF, not surface treated.

(Enter number of shelves desired)

Shelves=

Positions=

Shaded areas above indicate positions of  3 shelves, out of a potential  total of  9.

Shelf position numbers

  Maximum number of shelves equals number of Mulecubes, minus 4,  if casters of any type are ordered. You must specify the quantity and position of cubes to accept shelves.

Step    QuikSet (Detachable) Topside Devices

Safety and "guaranteed never to bend" qualities are imparted to these devices by being attached to the stand with slip/fit welded steel 'pin and socket' joints. One inch diameter pin(s) attached to the topside device pass through the board mating to socket(s) welded to the framework below.
